John "Barnie" Barnes - A denizen of the Romney Marsh Delta, the Big Bass from the Bay started playing in the 1960s. His first gig was in front of 300 people, playing pop covers. Barnie went on to perform many times at the Leas Cliff Hall and other major venues, supporting such artistes as Long John Baldry (with Elton John), the Jeff Beck Group (with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood), the Moody Blues, Hot Chocolate, the Move and Status Quo. 

Barnie’s major influences are Paul McCartney, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunne and John McVie. His favourite bands are Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac and Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, although the Beatles and the Rolling Stones are the main reasons he started playing. 

The last 30 years has seen Barnie hone his skills to become one of the most accomplished bass palyers in the area. Barnie came to the OZ via the Concordes, Autumn’s Child, 1981, JCB and the Excavators and Red House. During the Docs’ hiatus he played with Black Cat Bone.

Barnie uses a 1977 Fender Precision and a Trace Elliott stack. well he used to but hes got a new guitar which he wont let anyone see.
